FIRST NYFW EXPERIENCE
You need discipline & a strong liver.
There is always something to do, places to go, and people to see in New York City! 75% of my trip turned out to be personal, but my original plan was suppose to be 75% business. I literally went out every night and wouldn't wake up early enough the next day to make it to the NYFW events I wanted to attend. I say this so you do not end up like me! Make sure you take care of business first and then see friends, family, or strangers later.
My current faves right now:
- Salsa Con Fuego at Fordham Bronx is a beautiful club, lounge/restaurant. It fit any type of vibe you were in. Sometimes, they host comedy shows. Great food, drinks, and music. AND I SAW ICE T!
- Falucka in the villages is a cool hookah lounge. WARNING: If you don't support the LGBTQ community, don't go.
- Press Lounge is a beautiful roof top spot in midtown Manhattan!
Its definitely who you know!
You need invitations from designers participating during the week or volunteer/work with someone who received an invitation. I was not invited to any shows, so my role was stalker/paparazzi. I had a blast to say the least. I saw Karrueche Tran from a far, but by the time I walked over, she had already jumped in her truck. What really made my day was that I caught her on my video camera by accident. SO... I WIN!
Dig deep to find Open-to-Public events!
If you are not able to get into a NYFW show, make sure to look out for open-to-public events and plan for them so you can buy the tickets in advance before they sell out. I tried attend Refinery 29's event and could not get in because of the 3 hour wait! However, I did ride the Skylight Shuttle for free and attended the Garance Dore Cointreau event, where I made my own drink from scratch called the "Crystal Ricky" (Watch video below to see my drink).
Bring stylish outfits but with stylish, comfy shoes!
It was raining on top of all the walking I had to do to get everywhere. Thank god for my common sense. I made sure I bought my booties and comfy heels with me! Outfits and outfit details provided below.
Become best friends with your Uber app or a metro card. (Well... this I knew)
It was my first time using Uber. Most of them do it full time. They were always on point picking me up but the traffic was insane. The traffic is better after you leave the club. If you're on a budget, metro cards will be your best friend... oh and hand sanitizer too.
